The Historic Sanford Welcome Center, Inc.
 Sanford is more than a city rich in Florida history. It is a city where everyone feels like they belong and the spirit of Southern hospitality is experienced on every street corner. Take the time to stroll the residential streets that are lined with beautiful city parks and hundreds of turn of the century homes, adorned with hundred year old oaks that whisper the secrets of the past.
Experience the rich history and the revitalized businesses that provide a number of special things to do in Historic Sanford. At one moment you will be immersed in the history of the steamboat days and in the next moment transported to a vibrant small town filled with antique shops, a flourishing arts district and unique restaurants. Spend an afternoon in this downtown setting with brick streets, restored buildings and sidewalk cafes. Browse for that one of a kind treasure or enjoy the arts and create a memory that will travel with you.
Our history dates back to the early 1800's when Sanford was once a hub for commerce on the St. John's River. The city sits on the south shore of Lake Monroe at the head of navigation on the St. John's River, a 9,406 acre lake, and offers beautiful lake views on the new Riverwalk - A perfect place to take an afternoon stroll and watch the sun set on the lake.
Our picturesque First Street is the center of downtown and has been revitalized with brick streets and traditional light posts. The Victorian-era cottages that adorn the surrounding residential area are lovingly restored and framed with gingerbread trim and picket fences.

The Historic Sanford welcome Center is proud to be the headquarters to the growing Alive After Five Street Festival Event promoting Historic Downtown Sanford Businesses.
Rediscover Sanford Florida and experience first hand the renaissance that has regenerated Historic Downtown Sanford.
The new energy and culture of Sanford Florida has spawned a creative enclave of specialty art galleries and gift shops that has developed into a uniquely diverse Arts District.
This rare blend of historic landmarks and new found spirit have redefined the alluring small town charm that has been the hallmark of Sanford Florida for so many years.
The beautiful Historic Downtown Sanford Streets serve as an amazing backdrop for this special themed outdoor event.
Come rain or shine each month the city opens it doors to thousands of participants who come to savor the tastes and culture of Sanford. Every month on the second Thursday Sanford hosts a street party like no other with live music, food and drinks, where the downtown streets are filled with artists and their works. Mark your calendar to come and celebrate all that is fun and exciting in downtown Sanford. Bring your party hat and we'll see you there!!
